Week 2 - April 18th, 2025

Hello, Orca Class families!

Our Pre-K and a Kinder friends this week were filled with lots of energy and eagerness to learn and play in school. They had so much fun interacting with their friends as new budding friendships are formed at this age. It was such a wonderful time to see them grow and bloom like flowers in Spring!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

Our morning meetings this week were so engaging and fun! First, we talked about our 8 classroom rules to guide them throughout the day.  Then, we started singing good morning song wherein we formed a circle and danced together as we say hello to everyone. It was such a joy seeing them laughing and holding each others' hands to begin our day. It was followed by checking our calendar time, assigning class jobs, doing a movement song and sharing about our whereabouts through our Class Dojo photos. In addition, we started to introduce our song for our upcoming Sports day. It was surprising that they knew the song as they were even singing it as they danced to the beat!

In the afternoon, we read a storybook and had mini discussion through asking WH-questions like why, what, where, when and how in order to enhance their story comprehension and enrich their vocabulary words. This week was also our Show and Tell week. It was wonderful to see and listen from our friends' photos and things that they brought from our Spring theme. We ended our day through singing a goodbye song and of course, got our time to choose our stickers as a reward.

Language & Literacy

Pre-K

To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Jungle friends". We described the pictures and read aloud the words with everyone. Then, we also had Phonics Nn and learn more vocabulary words. In addition, we did some related worksheets, N for nut craft and had a Phonics hopscotch game as a form of review. Incorporating movement in learning is essential to develop their skills and bodies holistically. And of course, it was so much fun!

Kinder

To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Spiral, Spiral Everywhere". We described the pictures and read aloud the sentences. We also asked them to read one sentence per each child to enhance their confidence and reading fluency. Then, we read an alphabet Raz-Kids book entitled, "Nan and Pap" to talk about short vowel a. We also made a craft related to this topic, learned the sight word "all" and did some related worksheets.

Maths

Pre-K

Our Pre-K math lessons for Week 2 were about finding differences and finding similarities. We looked at different object and pictures to see if we can see small differences in details between objects. It could be a difference of color, shape, pattern or size. In some examples we did, there were objects that were missing in a picture or replaced with a different object. We worked on scanning a picture and being able to quickly find differences between similar objects.

Kinder

For our 2nd week, the Kinder students compared two numbers and stated if the first number was greater than (>), less than (<) or equal to (=) the second number. We first needed to know the value of the numbers and know which numbers are bigger than others. Sometimes we counted the number of objects to see which side had more and which had less. We familiarized ourselves with numbers from 1 to 20 as well as learned about comparisons.

Topic Exploration

This week was truly a naturalistic-type one as we delved into getting to know about Spring season. Since flowers bloom and lots of insects and animals begin to appear, we decided to make a craft made from real flowers that we picked up at the park. In addition, we made butterfly craft and listened to nature songs as we created our crafts. For our Music time, we used a parachute to demonstrate fast and slow tempo. Everyone had so much fun and wanted to have another activity the next day. Incorporating music is essential for children's growth as it also help them regulate their emotions much better.

Free Play

Here are some more pictures of friends playing together in the classroom, in the Big Room, at the park, and enjoying other topics, events and activities at school.
