Week 7 - May 30th, 2025

Hello, Orca Class families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

Our morning meetings this week were so engaging and fun! First, we talked about our 8 classroom rules to guide them throughout the day.  Then, we started singing good morning song wherein we formed a circle and danced together as we say hello to everyone. It was such a joy seeing them laughing and holding each others' hands to begin our day. It was followed by checking our calendar time, assigning class jobs, doing a movement song and sharing about our whereabouts through our Class Dojo photos. In addition, we continued to practice for our  performance for our upcoming Sports day. Also, we had a Fire Drill and talked about why it is important to be safe during this times.

In the afternoon, we read a storybook and had mini discussion through asking WH-questions like why, what, where, when and how in order to enhance their story comprehension and enrich their vocabulary words. This week was also our Show and Tell week. It was wonderful to see and listen from our friends' family photos from Red group. Our friends shared that they love their family because it is cute, beautiful and kind. We ended our day through reading a storybook and singing a goodbye song.

Language & Literacy

Pre-K

These are the activities we did from last week to this week. To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Bedtime Counting". We described the pictures and read aloud the words with everyone. Then, we started learning word families -at this week through activities like singing short vowels song, scavenger hunt to introduce the lesson, guessing game from our pretend puppet friend Doraemon Pocket Surprise and interactive game as a form of review for our lesson. In addition, we had also learned about a sight word "up" and did a related worksheet. We aimed to enhance not only their literacy facet but also to lengthen their attention span and enhanced their focus and concentration which is essential to develop their skills and bodies holistically. Last Wednesday, our Pre-K parents joined us for a fun Parents' Day. Our Pre-K friends were excited and proud to showcase their learning and a little shy at the beginning during the lesson time. It was a delight to see how much they have grown from learning phonics to sounding out the letters now to read a word.

Kinder

These are the activities we did for this week.  To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Greater Than". We described the pictures and read aloud the sentences. We also asked them to read one sentence per each child to enhance their confidence and reading fluency. Then, we read an alphabet Raz-Kids book entitled, "Dan the Tan Man" to talk about word families -an and -ad. We also met our pretend friends, "Mr. Tan and Mr. Sad to enhance our understanding on word families, had a BINGO game and made a craft related to this topic, learned the sight word from,  and did some related worksheets. Last Thursday, we also had our Parents' Day and our Kinder friends were simply amazing showcasing how much they have learned in Literacy. We are so grateful to all our parents who came for that day.

Maths

Pre-K

Our Pre-K students did comparative lengths this week. We introduced the vocabulary of “short” and “long” and talked about comparative adjectives of “longer” and “shorter”. We also did a bit of “tall” as well and talked about the difference between “tall” and “long”. We listened to some songs about lengths and then we did some crafts about different lengths so that we can use it in our daily conversation when we make observations of objects in our environment.

Kinder

For our math lessons, this week, the Kinder students tried a new skill of “counting on” rather than “counting up”. This counting method is a way to get the answer faster rather than starting to count from 1 every time. Instead, we count from a number that we already have and start from there. To practice this, we played some games in pairs, listened to some songs and also practiced on worksheets.

Topic Exploration

This week, we talked about our Feelings and Emotions. Talking about our emotions is significant at this age as they began to experience more emotions and observe others too. It is important to be able for them to acknowledge and manage their emotions through expressing themselves and art representation, for example. This week, we read books from Todd Parr's Feelings , Anna Llenas's Color Monster and Janan Cain's The Way I feel; group painting activity of Color Monster using wooden pegs and pom-poms to enhance their fine motor and pencil grasp, blow-art process painting using straw to encourage breathing when we experience big emotions and feeling crafts. We hope that through this topic, our Orca friends will be able to express their emotions better and manage. They truly enjoy the activities especially the blow-art painting.

Free Play

Here are some more pictures of friends playing together in the classroom, in the Big Room, at the park, and enjoying other topics, events and activities at school.
