Week 16 - August 29th, 2025

Hello, Orca Class families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

Hooray! Term 2 has finally begun and we are as excited to learn and have fun in school. Last Monday was extra special as we had our first Morning Assembly with everyone in the Big room. We greeted and danced together and had a puppet show on our first character trait: Responsible. Everyone giggled as they watched the story of how Baikinmon became responsible at school and at the park. For the rest of the week, we had our morning meetings in our classroom. Our morning meetings this week were so engaging and meaningful! First, we talked about our 8 classroom rules to guide them throughout the day.  Then, we started singing good morning song wherein we formed a circle and danced together as we say hello to everyone. It was such a joy seeing them laughing and holding each others' hands to begin our day. It was followed by checking our calendar time, assigning class jobs, doing a movement song and sharing about our whereabouts through our Class Dojo photos. In addition, last Wednesday, we had an earthquake and fire drill  in the morning and our Orca friends were quick to their feet to evacuate. Afterwards, we also talked about what was inside our emergency bags.

In the afternoon, we kickstarted our Term 2  Show and Tell  this week. It was wonderful that our friends' different objects and photos about their favorite transportation from Red group. It was engaging and meaningful as we tried to guess what our friends brought/showed. Next week , it will be Blue group's turn. We ended our day through reading a storybook and singing a goodbye song.

Language & Literacy

Pre-K

These are the activities we did from last week to this week. To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Taking the Bus". We described the pictures and read aloud the words with everyone. Then, we reviewed phonics Yy this week through activities like singing a song, beginning Yy and related worksheet. In addition, we  did a related Raz-Kids worksheet. We aimed to enhance not only their literacy facet but also to lengthen their attention span and enhanced their focus and concentration which is essential to develop their skills and bodies holistically.

Kinder

These are the activities we did for this week.  To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Getting Around City". We described the pictures and read aloud the sentences. They drew their favorite transportation and labelled it too. It was such a delight how Kinder students learn to collaborate and work harmoniously together as a group. In addition, we also learned the sight word 'jump' and did a worksheet about it for reading fluency. Then, we talked about  Phonics Zz and made a zebra craft to enhance our understanding , and did some related Raz-Kids worksheets. Last, we had a CVC dice game to practice reading fluency.

Maths

Pre-K

During this week, Pre-K students learned about Capacity: Light and Heavy. Some names that we learned this week were “lighter” and “heavier”, and more. We did activities such as listening to songs about Light and Heavy, we sorted pictures, explored light and heavy in our classroom and in everyday objects using a pretend weighing scale, and as a review, we drew our own heavy and light things. Learning these names of words will expand our vocabulary when describing objects in our surroundings.

Kinder

The Kinder students learned about the numbers from Skip Counting by 5s this week. We also reviewed numbers and use the place value number blocks and skip counted by 5s find the total number of blocks. We are expanding our knowledge and range of numbers that we can comfortably recognize and count until.

Topic Exploration

This week, we talked about Land Transportation. We began by reading a book entitled, "The Pigeon Loves That Things that Go", sang a song about transportation from Singing Walrus, made a graph of our favorite transportation, transportation painting on the wall, STEM build-a-ramp activity using cardboards, and choosing their favorite transportation for coloring activity. The highlighted one for this week was the STEM activity. It was so astonishing to see how each one of them tried to build a ramp out of cardboards and collaborate their ideas with their friends. Each one of them showed a unique way of constructing from rolling and folding it to adding colors and details such as parking lots! Such bright ideas from our dearest Orcas!
