Week 18 - September 12th, 2025

Hello, Orca Class families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

Our day started having a guessing game of our classroom rules wherein the teacher shared an example of a misbehavior and what classroom rule should we use to correct our behavior. Everyone were so good at telling which rule should be used.  Our morning meetings this week were truly meaningful! Then, we started singing good morning song wherein we formed a circle and danced together as we say hello to everyone. It was such a joy seeing them laughing and holding each others' hands to begin our day. It was followed by checking our calendar time, assigning class jobs, doing a movement song and sharing about our whereabouts through our Class Dojo photos. Moreover, we had our morning assembly headed by our Starfish teachers teaching us how to be a risk-taker through a guess the box activity. Our Orca friends had a box filled with pine cones. In addition, we had a Traffic seminar this Friday and they learned so much about being safe too in our environment.

In the afternoon, we continued our Term 2  Show and Tell  this week. It was wonderful that our friends' different objects and photos about their favorite animals from Red group. It was engaging and meaningful as we tried to guess what our friends brought/showed. Next week , it will be Blue group's turn. We ended our day through reading a storybook and singing a goodbye song.

Language & Literacy

Pre-K

These are the activities we did from last week to this week. To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Animals Can Move". We described the pictures and read aloud the words with everyone. Then, we did our Jolly Phonics classroom and talked about phonics ``ng`` this week through activities like singing a song, beginning ``ng`` for King craft, and a phonics worksheet. In addition, we  did a related Raz-Kids worksheet. We aimed to enhance not only their literacy facet but also to lengthen their attention span and enhanced their focus and concentration which is essential to develop their skills and bodies holistically.

Kinder

These are the activities we did for this week.  To jumpstart our Literacy time , we started talking about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Animal Horn". We described the pictures and read aloud the sentences.  It was such a delight how Kinder students learn ask more questions as they began to expand their vocabulary words through reading.  Then, we talked about  Phonics CH through Jolly Phonics and made a chicken craft to enhance our understanding , and did some related Raz-Kids worksheets.  Last, we had a CVC reading comprehension to practice reading fluency and some alphabet writing practice too. In addition, they also had a Japanese Lesson.

Maths

Pre-K

During this week, Pre-K students learned about pattern recognition. We focused on ABAB and AABB pattern sequences. We learned a few new songs that helped introduce the students to how patterns work and then reinforced the concept by using colored shapes and cubes as a visualization tool. Additionally, we made a few crafts to help the students apply their understanding of ABAB and AABB patterns by making animal drawings and popsicles that included color coordinated sections, giving them more hands-on practice with the topic.

Kinder

The Kinder students learned about the numbers from 1-50 this week. We expanded on our numbers from 1-30 that we practiced last week and counted all the way to 50. We also reviewed how to use the place value number blocks and counted by ones and tens to find the total number of blocks. We are expanding our knowledge and range of numbers that we can comfortably recognize and count until. In addition, the students also started on pattern recognition, specifically AABB and ABC patterns. We did a few activities and crafts to coincide with this topic such as our caterpillar craft seen below.

Topic Exploration

This week for our Topic Time,we talked about different animals found in the zoo and aquarium. Our week was filled with meaningful activities as we headed to Sendai Umino- Mori Aquarium for our field trip, an open-ended drawing activity wherein they start drawing the animal from googly eyes, guessing animal sound game, making their favorite animal using oil clay, and coloring an animal mask. Everyone had such a wonderful time learning about different animals this week. Our next topic will be about Sports next week.

Field Trip-Aquarium

We had the lovely opportunity to embark on a field trip this past Wednesday. Despite the rainy conditions as of late, we avoided any bad weather and had a wonderful day. We started off the trip with a fun bus ride in which all the kids sang along to their favorite songs. Upon arriving at the aquarium, we saw a multitude of magnificent creatures. The kids also had the chance to design their own seahorse that was then scanned and projected onto a big screen alongside other virtual fishes. We explored the aquarium in its entirety and caught a glimpse of a spectacular performance head-lined by the cutest sea-lion ever! Before heading back to school we had a lovely picnic at the park outside of the aquarium in which the students brought their packed lunch boxes filled with all sorts of delicious looking meals. Upon finishing our lunch we let the kids burn off some calories by playing at the park's jungle gym. It was such a fun experience for all of us, and we look forward to more adventures in the future!
