Hello, Orca Class families!
Morning & Afternoon Meeting
Happy New Year everyone! What a fresh and splendid way to begin our year with our bright and energetic Orca friends! Our morning meetings this week were truly engaging and meaningful! Then, we started singing good morning songs and learning new songs to increased our vocabulary development. It was such a delight to witness how much they missed singing and dancing in school with their friends! It was followed by checking our calendar time, assigning class jobs, doing a movement song and sharing about our whereabouts through our Class Dojo photos.
In the afternoon, we ended our day through reading a storybook and singing a goodbye song. We will resume our Show and tell next week too, starting with the red group.
Language & Literacy
Pre-K
For this week, we talked about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Who Stole the North Pole" and did a phonics worksheet related with Raz-Kids. We described the pictures and read aloud the words with everyone. This book was truly interesting for the students as they were actively participating in our discussion through asking WH questions to enhance their memory recall, reasoning and comprehension. Since it was a short week, we had different activities as a refresh for our students such as CVC Throw the Dice and Read, and CVC word fishing game.
Kinder
To jumpstart our Literacy time , we talked about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Runaway Snowball". Then, they also did a paired activity related to Raz-Kids book to hone their understanding of the book they had read. In addition, we introduced the new phonics/ consonant blend "cl" this week through a song and a closet craft. To assess our reading comprehension and to enhance our reading fluency , we did our phonics booklet and CVC word dice game as we try to review how to blend the sounds fluently.
Maths
Pre-K
For Week 33, we reviewed rote counting, focusing on numbers up to 20. We filled our lessons with many activities, some games, and crafts. We also implemented addition and subtraction practice within our lessons. We concluded the week with completing a Sonic The Hedgehog inspired activity relating to rote counting up to 20, which included completing an iSpy activity. This approach helped ease everyone back into the rhythm of learning as we prepare to explore new subjects starting next week.
Kinder
This week we reviewed skip counting as we filled our lessons with presentations, open discussions, some new games, and crafts. We also implemented aspects of the New Year into our lessons as we used Otoshidama envelopes to reveal math problems and numbers that were continuously used throughout the week. Today we concluded our review with Kinder completing a Sonic The Hedgehog inspired skip counting activity as they used 2s and 5s to skip count forward and backward within 100 which in turn also provided ample opportunity to use their addition and subtraction skills.

Topic Exploration
We used this week to focus on the celebration of the new year. For example, we made a curly-haired rainbow horse craft, as 2026 is the year of the horse. We also made a Kadomatsu and Hanabi crafts. These crafts involved many steps and required acute cutting skills, and we’re happy to report that all of our Orcas completed their objectives in such a spectacular manner! They all understood each step, cut and colored very neatly, and expressed the vast extent of their artistic prowess! We couldn’t be more impressed!
