Week 34 - January 16th, 2026

Hello, Orca Class families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

Our morning meetings this week were truly engaging and meaningful! Then, we started singing good morning song wherein we formed a circle and danced together as we say hello to everyone. It was such a joy seeing them laughing and holding each others' hands to begin our day. It was followed by checking our calendar time, assigning class jobs, doing a movement song and sharing about our whereabouts through our Class Dojo photos.  This week too, we had our Earthquake drill for this term and our friends knew what to do upon hearing the alarm. We immediately evacuated to the first floor and had a recap with our principal for the do's and dont's.

In the afternoon, we continued our Term 3  Show and Tell  this week about something warm/hot. It was wonderful that our friends' different objects and photos about something from our Winter from Red  group. It was engaging and meaningful as we tried to guess what our friends brought/showed. Our friends were so curious and guessed a lot of warm -related object. We ended our day through reading a storybook and singing a goodbye song.

Language & Literacy

Pre-K

For this week, we talked about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "We make A Snowman" and did a phonics worksheet related with Raz-Kids. We described the pictures and read aloud the words with everyone. Then, we learned a new phonics "ue" through Jolly Classroom, made a barbecue craft, did a ue worksheet, and a I Spy Sight Word Game as a form of review for sight words.

To jumpstart our Literacy time , we talked about our Raz-Kids book entitled, "All About Orcas" through describing the pictures, rereading the story and doing a related worksheet from Raz-Kids. This week, we talked about consonant blend "bl". We listened to a song, did a blender craft and a worksheet, and had a mini blowing activity called, "Read, Blow and Paint the BL words" to enhance their reading and blending fluency.

Maths

Pre-K

For Week 34, we focused on identifying even and odd numbers. We learned how to do so with 3 different strategies, such as learning how to group numbers in twos (if there was a single remaining digit the number would be odd as opposed to even), and color coding even and odd numbers in order for our students to learn through repetition and visual cues. We did an array of activities and interactive presentations to accomplish our goal of solidifying our understanding of the topic.

For Week 34, we focused both on identifying even and odd numbers and reviewing 3D shapes. We studied a few different strategies that gave each student a preferable method in which they felt most comfortable using in order to identify even and odd numbers, whether that be through using skip counting, grouping in order to find reminder digits, or repetition of digits via color coding. In regards to shapes, we studied everyday objects and associated them with the 3d shapes they encompassed. We hosted an array of activities and interactive presentations in order to strengthen our understanding of the topic.

Topic Exploration

This week, we talked about Winter Animals and did various activities to help them learn more about it. We sang a winter animal song to the tune of "If You Are Happy And You Know It", made a polar bear handprint craft, had a drawing activity about our favorite animals and labelled it, and finally, had a fun sensorial activity. To begin our sensorial activity, Mr. Penguin asked for help to find his other friends buried in frozen ice and help them return to their cold and snowy habitats. immediately, everyone said yes and accepted the mission! Using open- ended materials like cloth, spray water bottles, sticks and tools, they all tried to excavate the animals inside the ice and afterwards, had a pretend snow play using flour and dish soap. Everyone truly enjoyed it as we made a beautiful mess too and turned our room into a snowy floor! We really tried our best too to clean ourselves after this wonderful sensorial pretend play. This week was such a wonderful time to learn about the winter animals!
